Being in silence with you gives me more reasons to fall in love with you.
The sound of you breathing. The soft sigh you let out when you’re focused on grading your papers. The way you sit. The way you glance up to check on me every five or ten minutes. The sound of your voice after a long day. The touch of your hand. The sun shining across your face.
Maybe you don’t care. I don’t know.
But I feel like the flame in the fireplace, the one I sit beside on cold nights, bundled under my knitted blanket, thinking of you. Some nights I wonder if you’ll ever feel the passion that tugs at my heart every time we have to say goodbye.
I’m writing this letter knowing I’ll never send it. Not because I’m a coward, but because I don’t want this friendship between us to end. I’m afraid that if I tell you I’m deeply, madly, desperately in love with you, you’ll go away.
And I don’t want you to leave. I have to see you. Not seeing you would drive me insane.
So I’ll fold this letter and put it in a box in my bedroom closet. Maybe one day I’ll let you read it, when I’m no longer afraid of losing you.
Forever yours,
Lovie
